KVK Mon conducts skill training for rural youth

DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mon, in collaboration with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland, and the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), organised two skill training of rural youth (STRY) programmes.

The training on seed production was held from December 2 to the 7th, while the training on soil testing took place from December 5 to the 10th. Both programmes were conducted at the KVK office in Aboi, under Mon district, according to an update.

During the training programme on seed production, Bendangjungla emphasised various themes related to seed production. Dr. Ruopfuselhou Kehie delivered sessions on seed pathology, seed health, plant disease management, seed storage, and insect pest management.

Peiwang delivered a talk on the agronomy of seed production, covering seed production technology for vegetables, oilseeds, and cereals, as well as participatory seed production and its importance. Zhiete Kapfo spoke on soil health management, nutrient management, determination of soil parameters, and the procedure for soil sample collection.

Senior scientist and head of KVK Mon, Dr. V Akashe Zhimomi, highlighted the importance of seeds in ensuring a secure food supply and their role as effective carriers of emerging technologies.

He emphasised the importance of soil and its management in crop production and encouraged participants to actively engage in the training to acquire new skills.

A total of 34 youths benefitted from the programme, which included practical classes and demonstrations.
